This handmade textile is made by Hilaria from Chahuaytire, a quechua community in the remote mountain areas of the Cusco region. As descendants of the Incas their weaving tradition goes thousands of years back. The Quechua people are part of a nature religion where they respect and honor mother earth and the mountain spirits they call ’apus’ and the mastana is traditionally used in ceremonies as a cloth on which offerings to Pachamama and the apus are being served or as a wrap for the shamans healing stones. This fabric has symbols of the sun cross Chakana, the sun god taita Inti, the four directions, stars and coca leafs. 100% organic natural dye alpaca wool
